David Hepburn

David and I met in Dundee in 1999. I remember the first time I saw him, I thought he was quite nice looking but not very tall. We were great friends for ten months then something changed and we started dating.

David and I met in Dundee in 1999. I remember the first time I saw him, I thought he was quite nice looking but not very tall. We were great friends for ten months then something changed and we started dating.

On June 7th, 2003, we married in Craigie Parish Church. David was my best friend and soul mate and our love for another was unconditional.

We had a good life: loads of friends, a shared love of travel, we’d socialise and often have friends over for dinner. David and I used to rescue kittens with the intention of rehoming them. I might add, some never left our home as we couldn’t bare to part with the ones that we had nursed back to health.

David had a big heart. He was kind and intelligent and loved his friends and family, but he was also a proper wind up merchant and loved playing tricks on his colleagues and pals. He especially adored his nieces and nephews, not to mention his best man Scott and friend Bob. They were known as the three musketeers. He kept friends for life, including many from his time with Auto Services in Perth, and close friends Colin and Elaine. Colin became David’s constant friend and companion and driver along with myself and Craig, Carolann and Dereck were always there for us. They were always there for us, like a happy family.

Before I met David, he had been awarded two medals for pulling people to safety from a river. David was an exceptional swimmer, but he also loved watching the grand prix and playing golf. But as well as his love of sport, David was a workaholic and gave 100% to everything he did, including starting his own business, Fuel Drain Tech Ltd.

In February David was diagnosed as terminally ill and from 3rd February to the April 13th, in just ten weeks, I lost the love of my life. We had ten weeks.

Not everyone gets to have the love we shared together, I just wish we’d had longer.

David would love to know that all our loyal friends are by my side on this journey.

A poem that David gave to me.

Together we have shared everything

That life has thrown our way.

Together we have shared our hopes and dreams

Walked side by side each day.

And my heart is full of love for you

For more than I can say.

As told by Fiona Hepburn
